Life Fitness R1 Recumbent LifeCycle with Advanced Console Review

Life Fitness R1 Recumbent LifeCycle with Advanced Console

I have used Lifecycle Bikes in the gym, and this is the home version.I especially like the various cardio settings--the bike keeps adjusting the resistance to have your pulse-rate remain steady. As you get increasingly tired over the workout, the resistance lessens, yet your pulse-rate remains steady. The quality of construction is sturdy. All the pieces are secure and the assembly instructions are clear. It does take about 60-90 minutes to set up, but I am slow and check things a few times before going on to the next step. All needed tools are included.I opted for this bike over the Nautilus, but both are excellent choices.

About Life Fitness
What started as one man's pursuit to improve his own physical condition, eventually turned into a global fitness revolution. That man was Keene P. Dimick, the mastermind behind the legendary Lifecycle® exercise bike. The story of Life Fitness began when two young entrepreneurs, Ray Wilson and Augie Nieto, saw the promise of Dr. Dimick's invention. Even though it was slightly ahead of its time, they believed the Lifecycle exercise bike could help generations of athletes, trainers, exercisers, and people everywhere live happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
Wilson and Nieto bought the rights to the Lifecycle bike from Dr. Dimick, perfected it, and sold it out of a motor home to health clubs across America. Despite the overwhelming odds and initial unpopularity of the Lifecycle exercise bike, the two passion-filled pioneers turned a two-man operation and a seemingly impossible vision into a prosperous reality. Along the way, they shaped the future of Life Fitness as well as the fitness industry, bringing cardiovascular training into the mainstream and helping ignite the health club boom.
Today, Life Fitness is the global leader in designing and manufacturing a full line of reliable, high quality fitness equipment for commercial and consumer use. It is the number one brand of fitness equipment in health clubs worldwide.

Kettler Kadett Outrigger Style Rower Rowing Machine Review

Kettler Kadett Outrigger Style Rower Rowing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I initially tried to order my Kettler Kadett from a company called Mercantila, a.k.a. Rowingmachines.com.It was a complete disaster and nightmare including some false advertising, trying to cover up some mistakes on their part which caused about a month of delays, some horrible customer service (or lack thereof), some false charges, and a lot of headaches.Eventually enough was enough and I wound up ordering it directly from Amazon, which cost me a few bucks more, but was well worth it.

The machine comes mostly disassembled and took about an hour and a half to put together. There were a few confusing moments as the instructions are only pictures and no text, so making sure you have the right part takes a little extra focus. It came with all the tools necessary except an allen wrench which was necessary for one small thing.

In terms of overall quality, it's very high.I'm not concerned about this thing breaking, nor does it rattle or have ill-fitting parts. That said, the housing for the computer is a little wimpy and doesn't attach very securely to the main body as I've knocked it off a couple times.A small piece of tape at the base has kept it firmly locked into place since.

Some people have complained about the location of the straps on the foot plates.I actually find their location ideal, although they do tend to loosen themselves during a workout.I made a trip down to the store and bought some velcro which I sewed onto the straps. It took 15 minutes to do and I now have the best foot straps in the world.

The best thing about this machine, and the reason I bought it, is that it REALLY DOES in fact mimic an actual rowing motion. When I close my eyes I can actually believe I'm on a boat on the water which makes my workouts much more pleasant. So for anyone with any doubts, you can in fact believe the hype, it IS like rowing a boat.Additionally, all the action is very smooth. The seat is very sturdy and comfortable and it doesn't wobble. The arms are also smooth and the grips spin freely.

One other reason I bought this machine is that I'm very tall and the Kadett adjusts to accommodate my size.It does this by placing the footboards on a center beam that slides inside the central housing. This beam can be adjusted allowing my incredibly long logs to get a full complete extension without the seat hitting the end of it's track.

Although it takes up a lot of space during use due to the outrigger style "oars", it does fold up to the size of a traditional hydraulic rowing machine in about 30 seconds.I keep mine leaned up against a wall and out of the way in an adjacent room, and as it's not very heavy it isn't a big deal pulling it out every morning.

One problem I did discover, is that the numbers on one of my adjustable hydraulic pistons is misaligned. So it was a minor nuisance to set the resistance initially as I had to do it by feel.

In preview, the Kadette appears to be overpriced compared to virtually all other hydraulic rowing machines. But it really is a completely different kind of animal in terms of the rowing action that makes it worth the price tag.It still suffers from a slow start as the pistons come up to temperature like any other hydraulic rowing machine, but the rowing motion is like heaven.

Lifecore R100 Commercial Rowing Machine Review

Lifecore R100 Commercial Rowing Machine
Average Reviews:

Overall an excellent unit that I feel is worth its steep price.I've owned a couple rowers and a skier for years and after 3 weeks this is now my cardio workout device of choice. It's quiet, comfortable and the computer controlled workout options are nice.At first I thought things like "whitewater" rowing were a bit goofy but the variable resistance programs make a real difference. The fan does make a bit of noise but far less than my skier and I can easily watch TV over the top of the resistance unit.
The stats and options in the computer unit are top notch. The only gripe I have here is at full extension it sometimes loses the signal of my heart monitor (new Polar unit) - I'm 6' 3" - I tested the Polar watch and it, too, tends to lose the signal at that range so I suppose it's to be expected.I just wear the watch on my wrist to keep track of my actual heart rate (which is normally pretty close on the rower computer anyway) and use the computer stats for tracking distance, speed etc...
The Unit is very solid and sturdy and can give anyone a good workout.Yes, it's a tad on the expensive side but in my opinion it's worth it if you're going to use it often as I do.

LifeSpan Fitness RW1000 Rowing Machine Review

LifeSpan Fitness RW1000 Rowing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We ordered this product to help in a revamping of our exercise program, and it is absolutely great in that mission. The device assembles very easily and quickly; 15 minutes or less if you lay the parts out. There are two major assemblies, and you just attach the seat and put the two pieces together. In action, the device is smooth and quiet, and it can give you a very good workout in a relatively short period of time. The electronics package is good; the only issue some may have is that changing rowing resistance doesn't appear to change the calorie count.

The only problem we had was with Amazon in shipping. This is shipped in two boxes but for some reason Amazon seems to lose sight of that fact on its own tracking. If the two boxes become separated (which ours did) and only one is delivered, they show status as "delivered".I called customer service to try to get them to help with the other box and they continually insisted that the order was one box and was complete. Finally they gave me the UPS premier shipping contact but didn't tell me I would need their shipper number to use it!The other box finally arrived after about five emails to them, two calls to UPS and one call to Amazon. It's worth the wait, though. This is a really great rowing machine!

UPDATE:

We've used the rower for over a month now and so I have some notions of how it works.First, it's deceptive when you start rowing for the first time because the effort level seems light so you tend to crank it up to 4 or 5 (the top).Don't do that unless you're in decent shape or you'll bonk pretty quickly. What seems to work best is to start off rowing for about 10 minutes at about 25 or so strokes per minute according to the timer, at a 1 or 2 level. When you see how you'll do, you can then increase time, stroke count, and effort level. In terms of subjective effort, every jump of one in effort level seems to give you the equivalent of about a 10% increase in stroke count. When I go up in effort level, I'll drop my stroke count 10% until I'm used to the new one.If you're not a young athlete (which I'm surely not) then you will probably find 15-25 minutes of rowing at a pace of about 27 strokes per minute a good workout at level 2 or 3.

This machine undoubtedly gives the most concentrated workout of anything I've used.In 20 minutes I'm sweating big time!

About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer Review

Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned a lot of exercise equipment, and the Lifecore LC-985VG Elliptical Trainer is a very good machine.Unlike some others I have tried, it has a very smooth action, is quiet, and is easy to use. It's also smaller than several other models I've tested, so it fits nicely in most rooms.Further, because it is lightweight and has two front wheels, it's easy to move.

The assembly instructions are not the best, but I've seen much worse.Regardless, it's pretty obvious where most of the parts go.It took me about one hour to assemble by myself, though it would be easier and quicker with two people.

Recently I moved the machine to a different room and one of the front wheel casings cracked.I don't know if this occurred because of a defect or because I went over a bump too quickly.I called the manufacturer (toll-free number) and received prompt and courteous service. When I bought the machine I registered it online, so my information was quickly found by the company representative.I described what happened and the representative was surprised because it was unusual for a wheel casing to break.Nevertheless, without any trouble he promised to ship me a replacement part free of charge (still under warranty).I called on a Friday afternoon and received the part on the next Tuesday.Changing the part (only one screw) was simple and took about two minutes. It's nice to know that there are still some companies that stand behind their products and provide good service to their customers.
