Nautilus NE2000 Elliptical Trainer (Discontinued) Review

Nautilus NE2000 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

The Nautilus NE2000 is a high quality elliptical. Prior to purchasing it, I had used this model at my gym. It's fun to use! Very smooth operation. After a twenty minute session, I'm sweaty but actually energized. With a strong friend's help, it set up quite easily. Came in two major sections, which are heavy. The deal I found on Amazon was great...$600 dollars off the list price and shipping was free! Very happy customer.

About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

CYBEX 360A Home Arc Trainer Review

CYBEX 360A Home Arc Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had my Cybex Arc Trainer 360A for about a week now. I'm very impressed with the quality of the machine. Very strong sturdy piece of equipment. Nothing vibrates, squeaks or creaks. It's virtually silent and an absolute pleasure to use. I'm recovering from a back injury so I need equipment that will allow me to continue to work out but without hurting myself. I can get a very intense workout without back pain. The motion is smooth and feels natural. The wide variety of programs will keep me from getting bored. Hill climbs, intervals, etc.

Be prepared to have some help around to set up this machine. It is very heavy. The unit arrives mostly assembled, but there is still some work to be done by the consumer to finish the assembly. The instruction manual was decent, but sometimes it was difficult to distinguish between many similar looking parts. We managed to assemble it in about two hours.

The user manual that arrived with my unit appears to be for an older model. It mentions a chest strap and cable for the heart rate monitor function, however this is not included and to my delight does not need to be. The heart rate monitor function is wireless and works great with my Polar FT80. It recognized my HRM and worked automatically. This really should be explained in the materials somewhere. That's my only reason for giving the Arc Trainer 4 stars.

My delivery nightmare was certainly not the fault of Cybex, so I'm not counting that against them in my review. My order qualified for free shipping. Of course this unit is very heavy so it is shipped by freight carrier. Apparently Amazon did not pay the carrier for the shipping so they tried to deliver it C.O.D. to me for $450! Of course I did not accept that and after a few calls to Amazon and a few days delay we had it all straightened out and the unit was delivered without cost to me. I felt bad for the driver from ABF who was sent alone to deliver this monster. Luckily we had someone here to help him, or it might still be on the truck!

All in all, I am very very happy with the Arc Trainer and I'm looking forward to many years of use!

UPDATE 1/26/2010:I received the most surprising phone call today. Seems that a representative of Cybex read my review here. Dug up my phone number and called to tell me that he's overnighting me the heart rate monitor chest strap. Wow. Now that's awesome customer service. Thanks Cybex!

Product Description:
Combining elements of a climber, hiker, and skier, the Cybex 360A Arc Trainer produces gym-quality results in the comfort of your own home, helping you get fit more efficiently than ever before. Research shows that the Cybex Arc Trainer burns more calories than any other cross trainer or elliptical cross trainer on the market. The machine accomplishes this through its Reverse Arc motion technology, which engages the muscles--the quads and glutes--that demand the most energy from the body when they're called upon to work. That means a higher intensity and a bigger calorie burn, giving you a complete workout in the shortest time possible. The Cybex 360A also uses workout variations usually reserved for the gym, with three exercise zones providing a host of workout options: a low position called the Glide (similar to a ski machine), a medium position called the Stride (similar to an elliptical trainer), and a high position called the Climb (similar to a stair climber). The zones team up with a broad incline and resistance range to emphasize almost every lower body muscle group, letting users determine the motion that best suits their fitness needs.

The Cybex 360A Arc Trainer combines the best features of a skier, elliptical trainer, and climber. The Cybex 360A is also far easier on the body than most exercise equipment. The trainer's Reverse Arc motion technology places the user's toe behind the knee, reducing stress on the joints while offering a complete range of motion for both the knee and hip. The machine's Same Side Forward (SSF) orientation, meanwhile, ensures that the arm and leg on the same side move together, so that the relationship with the arm handle and footplate remains the same regardless of incline. This allows the user to always maintain an optimal posture during the exercise, which virtually eliminates back fatigue. Other cross trainers, by contrast, move the arms and legs in opposite directions, putting the body in a stressful position throughout the incline range. Finally, the Arc Trainer is equipped with long input arms that produce a more linear path, versus the shorter handles found on most equipment. This near-linear path minimizes painful wrist articulation, allowing you to get a better upper body workout and maintain good posture.
The Cybex 360A offers 13 preset programs, including quick start, manual, weight loss, cardio, hills, valleys, ramps, interval one, interval two, strength, endurance, random, and calorie goal. It's also easy to track your progress thanks to the intuitive split-level display. Other features include two water bottle holders, a magazine rack, a utility tray, and wireless heart rate monitoring.

The trainer includes a split-level display with 13 preset programs.Specifications:

    Incline levels: 11
    Stride length: 24 inches
Resistance range: Up to 450 watts
    Drive type: Single stage
    Brake: Eddy current
    Capacity: 300 pounds
    Dimensions: 28.5 by 62 by 71 inches (W x H x D)

Wow big pressure first review!! This machine is simply ok, right out of the box it looks great untill you go to bolt it together, and you realize that 2 of the 4 leg bolt holes dont line up.Build quality is alright, but after its done and you get on it, the arms just dont feel right, an extremely awkward workout, so we took the arms off and it seemed to work.I am 6' 2" and my wife is 5' 10" and it was awkward for her as well.So i would say go to the store and find a machine that you like, that has a good feel and go from there!

Proform Razor 400 ES Elliptical Trainer Review

Proform Razor 400 ES Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

I purchased a Proform 400 series elliptical in December. Since December I have not had a properly working machine. It malfunctioned the first time I tried to use the machine. It was incorrectly assembled by Proform manufacturing and within the first use, I had an electrical malfunction. I made several attempts to contact their customer service (which is by far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with). After days of attempting to contact them and several times of being on hold up to hours at a time, I finally was able to have a service tech come out to take a look at the machine. Within three days of that malfunction being corrected a new problem began. I am a consistent exerciser and thought I could get away this time with buying a cheaper machine. Wrong, the only thing that is thinner is my wallet and the carpet where my broken machine still rests. Bottom line, poorly manufactured equipment and by far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.

Kettler HKS EXT7 Elliptical Cross Trainer Review

Kettler HKS EXT7 Elliptical Cross Trainer
Average Reviews:

It's not a gym quality machine, however for the price, it's great!I'm sure if you got the
Kettler models that were five or six thousand dollars you would have more of a gym quality machine.
This machine is smooth and quiet.I have used it and a 250 lb. man has used it, both with the same
smooth quiet operation.

The cons would be that I was missing a couple of minor parts (as I was with a Kettler rower I got, so
it must be typical of this company). And a couple of pieces loosened after initially putting it together.
This may have been my fault, but I tightened it the same as I did initially and it seems to be fine now.In any machine, I highly recommend this type of build. My brother has one of the ellipticals that has the
runners in the back and has had a horrific time with them "jumping" the tracks.

Excellent product and service.Although this item arrived a bit later than expected due to shipping area/schedule, it did arrive in good condition. The first big excercise that I had with this machine involved moving it to my basement.Even after removing the covers and foot pedals, it was still a heavy task as the frame was built like a tank. After assembly, the unit was smooth.Even my sister commented that she liked this unit better than the one that she uses in the gym.The only issue that I had was that it was missing the heart rate chest monitor. I called Bodysolid about this. Not only did I quickly get someone on the phone, but they quickly shipped out the monitor which I received in about 3 days.As mentioned, overall great service and one well built machine.

Epic E 950 Elliptical Trainer Review

Epic E 950 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased one of these machines recently. It was shipped and arrived at my home approximately 3 weeks after I ordered it.When I assembled it, the motor to operate the power incline on the front was frozen up and just made an awful grinding noise, but would not move the incline. When I phoned the manufacturer for customer service, they were very pleasant and promised to ship out the motor immediately. However, they then changed the order (intentionally, I found during a later call) to ship me an axle and sensor instead, even though those could not have caused the problem I described.

When I got the incorrect parts a week later, I again phoned "customer service" (on Friday afternoon) and was told that they would immediately ship out a new motor via overnight delivery, so I would receive it on Monday at the latest. Monday came... and no motor. I called yet again, and was told that the motor had been out of stock for some time, and they didn't know when it would be available again. I have called back multiple times hoping for an update, but all I get is, "these motors come in and out of stock all the time (I apparently am fairly low priority...), but we don't have any way of knowing when they'll be available."

That is where I still sit regarding the parts. The elliptical is vaguely usable, but only if I want to use it strictly on the highest incline setting - which makes it really more like a stair-stepper than an elliptical.

The quality of the machine is really quite poor for the price. The plastic foot pedals make cracking sounds if I use the machine. They don't seem to break - but they seem flimsy. The console is very light, cheap plastic, and is *very* poor in terms of programmability. Every mode is hard-coded for either a 30 minute or 45 minute workout. If you want an intense 15 minute workout... you're out of luck.A one hour workout... no joy.

As you can tell, I am not a happy camper with this product. I am going to return it as soon as I have the time to load it up and take it in.Fortunately shipping was free, and there is a brick and mortar store that I can return it to.

A word to the wise...

Update to the above review: The faulty motor that I had such trouble getting finally arrived. When the technician came out to put it in, though, the second motor was *also* faulty, so the elliptical still didn't work. So, to summarize, it started out badly - and has only gotten worse with time.I will be replacing this elliptical, but will do everything I can to avoid one built by one of ICON's brands.

Further Update to review:I should clarify that the lousy customer service was NOT on the part of Amazon, but on the part of the manufacturer.I've never had anything but positive experiences with Amazon.ICON did eventually send me yet another replacement motor - about 2 months after I told them not to bother because I was returning the machine that day...

This elliptical trainer is designed and built in Germany and is rock solid. Even purchasing probably the lowest end product, it is quality built. The monitor was confusing and the directions are not the best, but it is not so complicated that we can't figure it out. The noise level is non-existent. The footprint makes it possible to put in any room. The warranty was one of the best I found. I will reccommend this company and their products to everyone.

Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper Review

Stamina 55-2065 Dual Action Elite Programmable Elliptical / Stepper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Stamina 55-2065 Elliptical/Stepper is a nice piece of equipment. The assembly was pretty straight-forward. It took about an hour and thirty minutes which I don't think was too bad. This machine is not totally quiet but it doesn't make any squeaking, squealing and/or knocking noises like other ellipticals that I've tried. I love the great workout you get with this machine. It works almost every muscle in my body. The workout programs are quite challenging, which is a good thing. I'm still on Level 1 whereas when I was going to the gym and using their machines I was on Level 5. So this is no easy machine, again, that's a good thing.

Likes:
- Straight-forward assembly
- Very nice looking and sleek design
- Takes up little space and quite compact especially if you want to put it in a small space like a bedroom(where I have mine).
- Two machines in one! It's an elliptical and a stepper and it's easy to switch from one to the other. There's your value right there. No need to buy two machines.
- Well laid out out button controls and clear display
- A nice variety of different settings to try or to challenge yourself. They'll always be a program that will give you the intense workout that you want. So this machine is great for people of all fitness levels.

Dislike:
- The dual action bars tend to be a bit on the wobbly side. No amount of screw tightening seems to alleviate this. I'm not sure if this is normal for this type of machine or my product has a defect of some kind.

Minor or knit-picking gripes ;-):
- I wish there was a heart rate monitor on the dual action bars and not just on the stationary bars.
- I wish the display was backlit.
- I wish the water bottle holder could accommodate thicker sized bottles. I know the machine comes with a bottle but I like to use the one I've always used.

All and all, I'm quite pleased with the Stamina 55-2065. I did months of research to try and find the right elliptical. I read both the positive and negative reviews for other machines and I was scared to purchase one until I came across this one. I'm glad I listened to the reviews and got it. This is a solid machine and will definitely give you the workout you need. No more gym membership for me.

Product Description:
Programmed with 12 workouts and capable of creating and saving four personalized workouts, this machine combines an elliptical strider and a stepper to provide upper- and lower-body exercise in addition to a low-impact cardiovascular workout. A battery-operated monitor displays time, height, weight, RPM, speed, distance, fat percentage, calories burned, metabolism rate, and heart rate. (Heart-rate sensors are built into a stationary hand grip.) Plus and minus buttons (+ and -) on the monitor allow a workout's intensity level to be altered without interrupting the workout. The machine employs a heavy-weighted flywheel-resistance and belt-drive train so it operates silently and smoothly.
The elliptical mode blends stair climbing, cycling, skiing, and walking in a single movement. In forward motion, quadriceps, buttocks, lower abdomen, hips, and thighs are targeted. In reverse motion, hamstrings, lower buttocks, hips, thighs, and calves are targeted. The stepper mode works the same muscle groups with a vertical motion. Switching between modes is quick and easy. In either mode, dual-action handlebars--foam-padded for comfort--add an upper-body workout to tone and firm arms, chest, shoulders, and back. (The stationary hand grip offers an alternative to the handlebars.) A water bottle and bottle holder are positioned on the machine's upright section. The cross-trainer's frame is steel and aluminum. Floor protectors safeguard a workout area and prevent skidding. Assembled (instructions included), the machine measures 46 inches long x 30-3/4 inches wide and weighs 153 pounds.

Stamina Avari GX 8 Cross Trainer Elliptical Review

Stamina Avari GX 8 Cross Trainer Elliptical
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not saying this is the best elliptical on the market, but for the money it simply cannot be beat. Assembly was straightforward, it's relatively low profile, and it feels very sturdy. I'm very happy with the display and the many different programs, some of which incorporate pushing and pulling the bars, pedaling backwards, and changing speed.

I only have a couple of complaints, but none that would affect my rating. The first is that the machine started making weird noises within a few days of use, namely a low thumping in the rear, and there's some friction in the sliders. I thought it would get worse, as has been the case with other fitness equipment I've owned that has moving parts, but it's been a few weeks now and there's been no change. The noise definitely does not interfere with anything, including watching television at normal volume while working out.

My second complaint is more of a worry, since the warranty on this product is not as good as other brands offer. I considered this when making my purchase, and decided that it wasn't worth paying at least twice as much for an elliptical with a better replacement policy. As long as I get a year's use out of this machine, it'll already have been a more cost effective option than a gym membership; due to joint problems, I'm only able to use the elliptical and recumbent for cardio, and the elliptical offers the better workout.

The tray below the monitor is perfect for up to two bottles (or one bottle and a TV remote), music device or e-reader, and even a magazine. Although unintended, the smaller handles allow you to read a thicker book as they hold back the pages without making it too difficult to turn them. In short, if you spend any part of your day watching television, listening to music, or reading, you have no excuse not to use the elliptical on a daily basis.

LifeSpan Fitness EL1000 Elliptical Trainer Review

LifeSpan Fitness EL1000 Elliptical Trainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this elliptical from BJ's and feel totally ripped off.
My reasons are:

1) The elliptical wobbles and rocks from side to side inspite of it being placed on a firm surface and tightening all the screws as indicated by Lifespan.

2)The pulse rate indicator is highly inaccurate. The pulse rate would swing back and forth from 65 to 90 in a matter of few seconds.

3) The calorie count is totally inaccurate. I would work out for 30 minutes at moderately accurate pace and it shows only 50 calories burnt. When I called the customer service they had no idea about it.

The customer service seems to be inefficient. When I called their toll free during BUSINESS HOURS the automated answering machine would indicate call during business hours !!

I bought this item based on review by Tread Mill Doctors thinking that they are higly acclaimed but it seems they did not review this one properly.

Product Description:
Enjoy the benefits of a total body workout with little impact on your joints and back with the LifeSpan Fitness EL1000 elliptical trainer. Outfitted with an 18-inch stride length and narrow 2.5-inch pedal spacing, the EL1000 supports your natural walking motion, with converging handlebars that let your arms flow naturally as you exercise. For added comfort, the space between the treadmill's handlebars narrows as you extend your arms forward and then widens as you swing them by your side. And users with small homes or apartments will love the EL1000's space-saving design, which is far smaller than commercial models. The trainer even includes a pair of front-mounted wheels, so you can roll it from room to room.

The multicolored LCD console tracks your time, distance, calories, and more. The real centerpiece of the EL1000, however, is the multicolored LCD console, which offers several motivating display readings and exercise programs to help you achieve your health and fitness goals. The display tracks your time, calories, distance, heart rate, speed, and resistance level, making it easy to track your workout progress. More importantly, the trainer offers eight preset workout programs that help you vary your workout--a critical factor for people trying to get in shape. The programs include weight management (steady pace and uphill walk), heart health (ladder and interval), uphill intervals, pyramid climbs, rolling hills, and plateau climbs. Each preset program offers your choice of three different intensity levels, with the ability to increase or decrease the resistance load during the workout. The interval programs are particularly challenging, as they alternate between a higher intensity level and a short recovery period, which helps maximize the total number of calories burned.

The EL1000 includes an 8-inch step height for easy on/off. In addition to the eight preset programs, the trainer offers two My Zone heart rate control programs and two custom programs. The My Zone Constant program keeps your heart rate at a constant level--thereby using your heart rate as a fitness tool--while the My Zone Interval program lets you enter your own minimum and maximum hear rate. As you exercise, the pedaling resistance will automatically adjust to keep your heart rate at the preferred level. By contrast, the custom programs are fully adaptable to your favored workout formula. That's because you're in charge of setting the resistance level for each of the 20 program segments, and then saving them for future use. Other details include large soft-touch keys, an 8-inch step-up height that makes it easy to get on and off the trainer, and an adjustable handlebar position for added comfort.
The EL1000 measures 52 by 61 by 28 inches (W x H x D), supports up to 300 pounds, and carries the following warranties: lifetime on the frame and brake, three years on parts, and one year on labor.
Specifications:

    Stride Length: 18 inches
    Pedal Spacing: 2.5 inches
    Step-Up Height: 8 inches
Resistance System: Magnetic eddy current brake
Heart Rate: Contact Heart rate pulse grips

Xterra FS320e 20-Inch Stride Elliptical Review

Xterra FS320e 20 inch Stride Elliptical
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received the elliptical 3 hours ago. I got the FS420e model sold by costco. I heavily researched all the elliptical on the market, and all the ones offered by Costco, there are better ones out there for more money (Precor). The delivery men brought it down 1 flight of stairs, but they broke my railing, and are refusing to fix it (that's another issue). I used the elliptical for 20 minutes, and it makes a creaking sound each stride, it is like a small pop sound. I was not surprised about this since I heard this was a common issue with the popular Sole e35 which is a highly recommended by Consumer Reports. Sole and Xterra are made by the same company Dyaco, so you get the same built quality and similar model. The only disadvantage is Xterra provides 1 year warranty while Sole provides 2 year warranty. The extra value comes in the assembly which is time consuming and difficult, and Costco has you covered for that. The fan as stated in other reviews is really weak, and the MP3 speaker is very low in volume, my cellphone has a louder speaker.

I love this machine. I just can't afford one of my own. I first became aware of it because the YMCA gym had only two ( I can see why with the $2500 price tag). I did an experiment: I would spend 10 minutes on three machines and see which one burned the most calories and raised the heart rate faster. I used this machine, an ordinary treadmill, and an ellipitcal w/without inclines. This machine beat out the others hands down in number of calories burned in 10 minutes. A wonderful workout. If you can afford it, your home gym should not be without this machine. It's far better than your average elliptical or treadmill.
