Arrived in a timely fashion.Very well packed with good assembly instructions.Well made piece of exercise equipment.I have been using the equipment for 2-1/2 weeks now and can already see the results.I absolutely despise exercise and yet find myself motivated by the quick results to keep at it even when it has been a long tiring day.I would recommend this home gym for all ages, both male and female.

About Home Gyms
While offering the convenience of working out in the comfort and privacy of your own home, home gyms also allow you to focus on specific routines without having to wait in line or switch between a complex array of machines. In addition to improving strength, power, coordination, and muscular endurance, weight training can enhance weight reduction, enhance the immune and cardiovascular systems, and help prevent injuries. In general, home gym machines are compact units designed to strengthen and exercise many parts of the body. While no single home gym can provide a complete strength training solution, they are a convenient way to combine many exercises into a single unit. Some home gyms focus exclusively on upper-body workouts, while other, more advanced units focus on upper- and lower-body conditioning.

However...it did NOT come with the selector pin.It comes with the main unit.Think carefully before adding this one to the PHG 1000.You will have to not use the two rubber donuts above the stack to use the pin all the way to the bottom of the weight stack. The blow up illustration, which is the only thing that comes with the main unit, does not include directions on how to add the optional stack. If you do what the illustration shows, remove the "risers," and add the plates, you will misalign the stack selector.Don't expect any help from Powerline either.I asked them for help, and the one line response I got did not solve the problem.

Body Solid G5S Weight Stack Home Gym Machine Review

Body Solid G5S Weight Stack Home Gym Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this from a local supplier after talking to several salesmen and doing some test drives.

This machine is not the typical, flimsy, entry-level crap you see at chain stores - it is built more like commercial gym equipment (not surprising, as Body Solid is a major commercial gym supplier) Lots of steel square tubing and 1/2" bolts here.

All exercises are connected to a single weight stack with the usual weight pin via a clever system of interconnected pulleys and cables. The mechanical advantage provided varies by station, meaning that the weight felt at a given station can be higher or lower than the actual weight stack - meaning that many exercises can offer different weights to different muscle groups without having to change the weight pin.

All settings on the machine (seat height, etc) are adjusted via spring-loaded, captured pop-pins, just like commercial equipment. As a nice touch, the seat has an integral gas cylinder that makes height adjustment easy with no wrestling with the machine. Re-configuration between exercises is kept to a minimum, and what little is required can be done in a matter of seconds. This isn't a machine that requires major setup changes between exercises, meaning more time exercising and less time futzing with the machine.

As far as exercises go, you get a solid set of basic stations (where, like a dedicated single-use machine) the intended exercise is immediately obvious: chest press, leg extensions/lifts, pectoral flies, pulldowns, forward row, weighted crunches, and a bar that can be used for lifts/bicep curls. There are also a series of secondary uses for each station where the use isn't immediately obvious (and in some cases, a little awkward) but where, admittedly, other muscle groups can be worked.

For those looking to establish a good basic weight training regimen, and where you don't have easy access to a full gym, this is a great machine that gets the job done with little to no tradeoffs involved with this being a "home" gym; it really is a very impressive bit of engineering.

The one fly in the ointment is the assembly instructions. The instructions as given are clear and comprehensive, and the hardware for assembling the machine is bagged individually per step. But the design of the machine has materially changed several times without the instructions being updated. In some cases, whole parts have been deleted (with the hardware being changed to reflect the change) in others, subassemblies (the main seat) now come pre-assembled but still have the old hardware bags, leaving surplus hardware.

I was able to suss it all out - but I also have a mechanical background. I can see how anyone hoping to just follow instructions could wind up hopelessly lost and frustrated in very short order. If you are not particularly mechanically adept, find a friend who is.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this product.

I have had a Galena model including the leg press add-on since 2004.It's a very solid, well-made gym.I'm 6'3" and have not had any trouble doing any of the exercises. If you're much taller than 6'3" you may find the leg extension less than satisfactory. (It just barely works for me.)All parts move with ease and without noise except for the customary clank the moment the weight stack comes back to rest after an exercise. It came with all the straps and widgets needed to do the full range of exercises. So, no other expense, other than a book I purchased to help me see other ways to use a weight machine. (The manual and exercise poster that came with my Galena didn't describe all of the various exercises that can be done with it and there's a LOT more that can be done than what they tell you. Perhaps since 2004 they've added a little more documentation?) It fits nicely into a corner of the room and looks like it belongs in a commercial gym.For the money I didn't find anything else close to this quality back in 2004. I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Bowflex Blaze Home Gym Review

Bowflex Blaze Home Gym
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, I have the Bowflex Sport, which is the same as the Blaze just with different trim and labels, but which is being discontinued to Bowflex (however if you can find one they are cheaper than the Blaze).

Before I get into my tips, I'll give a brief review.I've had this machine for 10 months now and I am mostly pleased with it.I started out as a computer desk nerd with no strength and I've worked up to about average guy strength - I can bench about 200 bowflex pounds now, more than twice what I started at.So it works - just don't expect the miracles they advertise. The best thing about it is that is uses a pully system which makes it extremely versatile. The worst thing is the bows, which are elastic. If you can find a machine that uses pulleys like the Bowflex but has a weight stack instead of bows, that would be best, but I don't think there is one in this price range.

Now for the tips.
1.The bows work by stretching, and can get stretched out of shape like a rubber band.So make sure you tie them back with the included strap after every workout. If you mess up and stretch them out, you *could* try connecting them to the opposite hook and leaving them like that for a couple of days.I did this and it seemed to fix the issue.

2.By the same token, the resistance varies with temperature.I found this out by accident when my AC stopped working. The temp went up by 10 degrees and I was suddenly able to lift about 10% more.

3.The bows are not like physical weights. The resistance changes from easy at the beginning of the motion to hard at the end. Also I believe they are overall lighter than physical weights.

4.The weight labels on the bows don't add up mathematically. For example, 30lbs + 10lbs + 10lbs is much "lighter" than the 50lb bow.So while you are making gains you should actually increase from 45 to 30 + 10 + 10 to 30 + 10 + 10 + 5to 50 instead of jumping directly from 45 to 50.Another way to think of it in your head is that the 50lb is actually 60-ish in Bowflex units. This is also true for the jump from 25 to 30.Since there are only 2 10lbs weights I get around this by doing extra reps at 25 until I can finally do a full set at 30.You could also try raising the room temperature by about 5 degrees which should soften them up to start, and gradually increase it with each workout.

4.Despite what Dr. Bowflex says, the machine just isn't made for a cardio.I got a schwinn exercise bike to compensate for this.I immediately noticed being able to have longer workouts due to my increasing cardiovascular endurance.

5.The manual also states not to rest more than a minute between each exercise.I did this at first, but then (anecdotally) I discovered that if I rested longer in order to catch my breath, I could do more reps and make faster gains.

6.Certain exercises just don't work that well - basically anything involving legs, feet, or cardio. The supposed rows are not even worth it.Also the leg curls are very awkward. The manual does not even describe how to do them but according to an old manual I found on the net, you need to lie halfway on the leg station seat and halfway on the bench (the opposite exercise - I forget the name - let's call it "leg raise" - does work rather well though). Finally the leg press might be worth it after you upgrade to 310 or 410 pounds, but at 210 even someone completely out of shape might find them wanting - mainly because your legs are the strongest part of your body, even on a sedentary person. On top of this it is hard to get the leg press strap to stay in place when you are first getting into position.

7. In my case there were some exercises that hurt my joints.I've never had joint injuries that I know if, so it may just be my body shape.I'm pretty sure I did them correctly. However, in the manual it lists the muscle groups of each motion.Instead of trying exercises that hurt, I picked others that would exercise the same groups.

Workout Area: 8 feet, 4 inches by 6 feet, 6 inches

Multiple Machines in One Device
The Blaze home gym is similar to having a whole resistance training gym tucked right into your den. Bowflex's lat tower with angled lat bar helps build back and shoulder muscles quickly, and the lower pulley/squat station enables you to do squats and build your glutes, hamstrings and quads. In addition, the Blaze is equipped with a leg extension/leg curl attachment that helps develop strong, muscular legs, and the sliding seat rail allows you to perform aerobic rowing and leg presses to improve your cardiovascular health. And instead of different handles for every exercise, Bowflex has designed triple-function handgrips and ankle cuffs with multiple cable/pulley positions that encourage custom workouts. But if custom workouts isn't your cup of tea, Bowflex also includes a workout placard that steps you through the famous Bowflex 20-minute workout.
Power Rod Technology
Bowflex Power Rods give you resistance, or weight, that feels as good as or better than free weight lifting -- but without the inertia or risk of joint pain that is almost always associated with free weight strength training. Power Rod units are precisely manufactured under the highest quality control measures, then sheathed and tested four separate times to ensure quality and durability. Bowflex is convinced that the Power Rod units are so strong that you simply can't wear them out. You can flex them repeatedly, but they won't lose their resistance or break. In fact, they're so strong, Bowflex has given the Power Rods a no-time-limit warranty. If you can wear the Power Rods out, Bowflex will replace them for free.
The Key to a Better Body
strength training is when you perform exercises with resistance to build muscle strength. Strength training is not running on a treadmill, riding a stationary bike, or using a ski or rider machine. Although these types of aerobic machines use "resistance" to increase cardiovascular workout intensity, it is still not the same as strength training. strength training is, essentially, weight lifting. But don't be discouraged; you don't have to get bulky muscles if you don't want to. With Bowflex Blaze you can shape and sculpt your muscles to make your body look the way you want. It just takes persistence and dedication.
Why does strength training work better than aerobics for getting fit and losing fat? Because the more muscles you have on your body, the higher your metabolism rate, and the more calories you burn. Muscle also creates the shape of your body -- muscle is what makes you move, it's what gives you energy and strength. Of course, this doesn't mean you should abandon your aerobic exercise -- cardiovascular exercise is necessary for a healthy body -- but the combination of aerobic and strength training will help you achieve your fitness goals. Muscle acts as your body's fat burners. It's the stuff that makes you active and makes you burn calories. If you want to lose fat, you need to strength train with the Bowflex Blaze to add muscles, burn calories, and look fantastic.
What's in the Box?
Bowflex Blaze home gym, lat bar, leg extension/leg curl attachments, triple-function handgrips and ankle cuffs, 20-minute workout placard, and owner's manual/fitness guide.

Five-year limited warranty on commercial quality construction and lifetime warranty on Power Rods

During High School and in the military, I did a lot of weight training.Ok, I'm not 16 nor 21 anymore.I'm now in my 40's and am an active cyclist, and skier.I bought this machine based upon the Consumer Reports write ups (it was rated number one) so my wife and I can quickly and easily do some strength training. My key requirements were size, Lat and Leg exercises and Durability/Quality.Only way to review this is to break it down a bit:

Assembly:A lot of parts, Directions are passable, but not great.Biggest problem I had was determining which bolt for which hole.It took a good 4 hours to assemble, and I'm pretty good at this kind of stuff.

Customer Support:Had a plate break in shipping, and it took under 2 minutes to get to a human being. (you deal with body solid directly for support.)He made note that a plate was broken and asked me to finish assembly and give him a call back, to make sure I didn't need anything else.I finished up, and had no other issues.Called back to his direct extenision and he drop shipped the plate from the warehouse.I'd say that was great service.

Exercises:
Leg Exercises - Leg lift for Quads is great. The standing one legged hamstring curl, took a bit to get used to but given the small size of the machine, I'll take it.
Bench Press - Very smooth, and you get two hand positions, one for more inner pec and the other for more outer.Downside is that the start position is a little far back, but now that I think about it, I may have the bench arm on backwards. Doh!
Lats/Back - This is where I believe this machine earns it keep.It provides a Lat pulldown, and a seated row position. This was key to me and it performs as expected.(note I'm using this for toning and not body building.A 160 pound stack works for me.)
Shoulders/Arms - The curl bar thats included does has a static handle, so its not good for curls. You will need to purchase a bar that has rotating handles.Since I use dumbbells for these exercises, it didn't matter much.I'm ordering a single rotating curl bar, so my wife can add some exercises.

Overall, I'd say its a great value for someone who wants a smaller in home machine to cover a lot of exercies, and wants to add strength training to their workout. If your looking to get 'Pumped Up', you'd be better with Free weights or a Gym membership.I looked for a used one, but they didn't last very long and had a pretty high resale value.I am certainly happy with my purchase, and now need to flip that bench press attachment around.

OK, I bought a used total gym 3000 for 100.00 a year ago.I have used it on a regular basis ever since. The unit has gotten a little noiser, and is not nearly as easy to put away as they would have you believe. However, it *does* work you out well.It is easy to use, and effective.Maybe the body rail is better (it would be nice to have something wall mounted!) BUT - this is a review of the total gym 3000.I have lost weight, gained muscle and never hurt myself.Does everything it says it will do.Certainly not a ripoff IF you use it.

Turn to the Total Gym 3000 exercise platform, a mid-range workout device that helps you strengthen and sculpt every major muscle group in your body using a single glide board and a few handy attachments. The Total Gym 3000 not only works your upper body, but also your lower body, abdominals, and even your cardiovascular system. And by reducing body fat and increasing the proportion of lean muscle mass in your body, the strength training effectively turns up the thermostat so that your body burns calories constantly.

The Total Gym 3000 comes with a wing attachment for toning various back and arm muscles. The Total Gym 3000 is equipped with an upgraded cable and pulley system, along with such accessories as a standard squat stand for working your quads and calves and a wing attachment for toning various back and arm muscles. About Total Gym
Total Gym made its initial mark in rehabilitation centers, where its main focus was aiding people recovering from physical injuries and obstacles. The device is the perfect rehabilitation tool for several reasons: the smooth, gliding motion is easy on the joints; the various height levels accommodate every fitness level; and the padded glide board provides excellent support for the back. After years of success in the rehabilitation field, the product's inventors introduced the product to Chuck Norris 30 years ago. Norris--who calls it his "lean, mean exercise machine"--still uses the Total Gym today as his primary home fitness device. Christie Brinkley has also been a devoted user for more than 10 years, and uses it to stay lean and fit even through two children and a hectic schedule.

This just arrived today. Took about 2 hours to assemble, but it's pretty easy. I almost bought this from another site, because they were going to assemble it (would've been 200 extra dollars for that) and I am very glad I did it myself.

This unit is extremely sturdy and well put together. I was a bit nervous to buy this because I have young kids I did not want to trash it. Believe me, they couldn't! This is far too well-designed and durable.

Worked out for about an hour, and I love it. Lots of exercises you can do (both muscular and cardio) and you can really feel it.

As others have noted on other models, I can see how the weights (200 lbs) might not be enough, but I am not looking to become the Incredible Hulk. This unit is perfect to stay fit and not let those holiday meals get the upper hand.

I really recommend this to anyone who wants to work at home and does not want to be bored with the same old routine (treadmill, stationary bike, etc.)

Great job, Bowflex!

BodyCraft Xpress Pro Leg Press Attachment Review

BodyCraft Xpress Pro Leg Press Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Bodycraft Xpress Pro...a wonderful piece of equipment. The pulley cable arms are ingenious! I also bought the leg press attachment. It too is top quality. But for $550-600, the leg press (and calf extension) is fairly ineffective at developing your lower body...e.g., quads and gluts...especially if you're used to doing squats. You also don't work your lower back. The press essentially isolates your quads...which will BURN...but not really develop them attractively like squats can. You also miss out on working your 'core'. So...save your money and find another way to do work your legs/core.I do them with the seated row station (per their exercise chart)...which works OK, but not as good as free weight squats.

BodyCraft Xpress Pro Home Gym Review

BodyCraft Xpress Pro Home Gym
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have lifted weights any way you can, free weights, cable stacks, and nautilus machines. All of them have their advantages and disadvantages.I have owned a home gym(a soloflex machine, a good machine because of the iron plate adaptability, up to 400 lbs)and I have also been a member of a good gym.I stopped using free weights because of lower back problems(loading and unloading plates puts direct stress on the lower back). In the gym I used nautilus machines mostly and cable stacks. The cables stacks are good with any exercise. The problem is the frame for the cable stacks is large and unless you are rich with a huge room reserved for exercising, owning a cable stack machine is not feasible. The nautilus machines are a different story. Some machines are good and some are not.The best nautilus machines I have used in the gym are the life fitness machines. These machines for some exercises are more difficult than free weights(unless your lifting huge weight, over 300 pounds on chest and legs). If you don't believe me use a life fitness chest press machine and set the weight to the same weight you lift using free weights and you will see.The bodycraft xpress pro is a composite of the cable stacks and the "life fitness type feel" machines in the gym.I have owned the bodycraft for a week and there is no home gym(and I have used several)that compares to this one.The price is steep, but if you are a member of a gym you will pay your gym fee monthly forever(if you are a true gym rat). The bodycraft xpress pro is a one time "fee" with a lifetime warranty on any cable or part.Company's don't do this if their machines are not top quality.(This would be bad business) The cable arms are just one of the features that makes this machine top of the line. These arms allow a full range of motion on any conceivable exercise(and there are over 50 with just this part of the machine alone, you can check a bodybuilding book to see this fact)The bench press arm completely adjusts to any size user for the flat(vertical) bench, incline bench, shoulder press, and seated row exercises. This provides the full range of motion for all of these exercises. The leg extension/leg curl exercises is also top quality on movement and range of motion. The lat pulldown feature allows for any type of pulldown movement and variation, all with full range of motion. The most impressive feature for me(a man who at one time was bench pressing 405 lbs, 8 fourty five pound plates plus the fourty five pound olympic bar) is the 2:1 feature which gives a benchpress of 400 lbs. This is the only home gym on the market I am aware of that can do this.If you don't think this machine is real, go to the bodycraft website([...]) and find a dealer in your area.If you are lucky they might have the machine already set up so you can see for yourself.I was able to do this. After trying the flat(vertical) bench and incline bench, brother was working up a sweat and breathing hard(felt good). If you can't find a dealer where you can try the machine you can take my word for it!!!!!There is only one drawback(if it applies to you).I am 6'3 and the ab station is uncomfortable for me even with the seat at the lowest point. The high pulley takes care of this for me.Attach the ab strap to the high pulley and perform the crunch like a cable crunch in the gym.Even when you think you have a problem with this machine you don't.

Simply the best

Shape your body, get strong, lose weight, and even improve your golf swing with the BodyCraft XPress Pro strength training system. The XPress Pro lets you perform a wide range of exercises, with stations for chest presses, shoulder presses, lat pulls, leg lifts, and more. The leg extension/leg curl station, meanwhile, offers a convenient self-aligning feature that accommodates virtually any user. Add in the functional training/cable arms--which support more than 100 exercises--and you have a terrific gym for functional core training, sports-specific workouts, and rehabilitation exercises.
Users will also appreciate the XPress Pro's series of pulleys, which includes a mid pulley for ab crunches and tricep extensions, a high pulley for lat pulldowns and tricep pushdowns, and a low pulley with a foot plate for low rows, leg and hip exercises, arm curls, upright rows, and more. The XPress Pro uses these pulleys and cables to deliver unrestricted, completely natural, biomechanically correct movements. You define the path, providing for a greater, more natural range of motion that incorporates the use of stabilizer and core muscle groups, an advantage not found on typical home gyms. Finally, the XPress Pro includes a 200-pound weight stack that can be doubled to 400 pounds when combined with the leg press, which is cabled at a 1:2 ratio.
Construction features include 12-gauge steel tubing; flexible, nylon-coated aircraft cable rated at more than 2,000-pounds tensile strength; 4.5-inch-diameter, fiberglass-impregnated nylon pulleys with sealed ball bearings; 2-inch-thick high-density foam covered with double-stitched vinyl; chrome-plated 1-inch tubular steel guide rods; noise-dampening, perforated steel weight stack guards; and a platinum gray, powder-coated finish. Powerline BSG10X Home Gym, Short Assembly, 160lb Weight Stack Review

Powerline BSG10X Home Gym, Short Assembly, 160lb Weight Stack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this home gym for a few months now and am finally submitting a review.I wanted to put some miles on it as well as see if the novelty would wear off before rating.Overall, I am still very satisfied and thrilled with the purchase. It's been worth every penny not having to spend money on gym memberships, time, and gas (which = more $).

I did alot of comparisons before and after the purchase.I can honestly say - for the value, quality, versatility, and convenience - you just can't beat it.

I chose this gym for the following main reasons:
1. Well built.
2. Comes with most of the main components (especially cables) already assembled. You will need a helping hand to lift, move and hold a section or two while you fasten them together. My 10 year old son was perfect for the job.
3. Most versatile - in terms of types of exercises (especially when you get creative and add certain attachments to it). Fully adjustable for fit and comfortability.
4. Iron stack (not cement blocks).Plus you can purchase and add more weight to the standard 160lbs that come with it.UPDATE:THANKS TO DARIO FOR POINTING OUT THAT ADDITIONAL PLATES CAN NOT BE ADDED.FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, YOU CAN ONLY ADD PLATES IF YOU UPGRADE THE ROD THAT GOES THROUGH THE PLATES.
5. Relatively small footprint.I had a leverage bench press machine (used only for chest exercises) that took up more space than this gym that practically works out your whole body.
6. Much easier than adding and removing free weight plates when changing exercises. On this machine it's a matter of pulling and setting a couple of pins and clips and jumping right to the next workout. No lagging!Because of the ease resulting from the clever design, I find that it's more fun and addictive to use.
7. Looks a lot nicer than most home gyms.
8. Allows me to be home with my family after work and still get in a great workout.

My friends love it and always get on it when they're visiting.

Recommend if:
You want to stay healthy, develop strength, stamina and endurance, build toned muscle, and have a good physical appearance.

Bottom line is:I LOVE IT; I'm glad I got it, and would recommend it without hesitation. It's a home gym and a great quality home gym.Don't expect a super-heavy-duty industrial-grade one-excercise-specific piece of commercial-gym equipment.

PS>Instead of a $79 rubber mat, I bought a $15 six-piece foam puzzle mat set to put under it; and works just fine!Put money saved towards other fun attachments - like the rope attachment for tricep pulldowns!

Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings Review

Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In case you are not aware, muscles react 30% better to free weights then they do to machine weights. The problem for many people, is getting that free weight motion safely if you have to workout alone. This Smith Machine concept tackles that nicely.

I researched for weeks what would be the best free weight (or similar) home gym, at the lowest price possible, and as safely as possible without a spotter, but without sacrificing quality. This Marcy smith system won the toss. There were a few other possible runner-ups (like the Body Solid Series 7 Smith Machine at $2800, or the PowerTec Multisystem Leverage Gym at $1500). Both had their pros (quality) and cons (size/price), but in the end when I compared everything this Marcy gym won hands down. The Linear Bearings used in it dramatically increase the quality factor, and while some reviews said they were not "Thompson" bearings, I find them to be of very good quality and extremely smooth (besides, how "brand name" do you really need little steel ball bearings to be anyways).

Anyhow, there are a few things to note about this gym:

PROS:

GREAT price at only $982 on Amazon w/ free shipping (and it arrived in a week)

EVERY major exercise you can think of. I pulled out my exercise routine I followed when I was a member of Bally's Gym, and I was able to do every single exercise on my list. I am still amazed at everything this gym has!

THE SIZE of it is even more compact than I thought. The frame is only about 5 feet wide by 5 feet long (but keep in mind that the smith bar extends about 7 feet across, and the bench sticks out about 2 feet longer than the frame itself).

LOOKS - it is probably the most stylish smith gym I have seen in blue and white (coincidentally, our walls are the same color blue, so that was a bonus)

CONS:

You need to buy separate olympic weights. This is not actually a CON, since most of these free weight gyms require the same, but you can tack on a few hundred more for those (I found the best deal at Sears for 300 lbs + the bar at only $275)

The instructions - although they are fairly easy to read, they are aboslutely horrible for matching parts. NOTHING, not a single solitary part (and there are about 100) have labels. You have to actually hunt through the boxes to match the right piece with the right step and diagram you are on to make sure you have the right match. What were they thinking here? The good news is that ech part is pretty much one of a kind, so you shouldn't have too much trouble matching the piece, it's just finding it amongst 100 pieces that is the trouble. They could have made this much easier. The build time as stated in several reviews online said 5-8 hours, and yes it took me all 8 hours simply because of the hide and seek of matching parts. Proper labeling could have easily cut this down to 6 hours at a maximum.

Lastly, two of the frame pieces were bent when they got here (although no visible damage to the boxes). I had to hammer one piece back to it's correct shape, and the other had an elongated hole in it for a bolt to fit through, but because it was bent so much I had to drill about a 1/4" more space to accomomidate the bolt.

All in all, I would absolutely buy this again, as long as you don't mind an 8 hour build time and the "possiblity" of a little extra handy work.

My logic with this product was to buy it for $982, buy the Bowflex SelectTech dumbells (see my 2009 model review of those on Amazon) as well, buy the free weights, and buy an extra EZ curl bar but still stay under $2000. I did exactly that, while at the same time maintaing the ability to keep free weight quality and encompass all necessary exercises.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, AND WE ARE 100% SATISFIED!

Bodycraft Fitness K2 Home Gym Exercise Machine Style: No Leg Press Station (Standard) Review

Bodycraft Fitness K2 Home Gym Exercise Machine Style: No Leg Press Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying that this is an absolute first rate piece of equipment. I'm the type of person who researches a purchase like this to death before actually making it, and I could find no manufacturer of exercise equipment out there with a better reputation than Bodycraft. And get this - when you call their 800 number a HUMAN BEING answers the phone! To me, this is priceless.

Also, I put my entire gym together all by myself. My wife did help with discarding the mountain of boxes and plastic packaging that accumulated, but refused to assist with the actual assembly because of her unfounded notion that I'm too much of a perfectionist.

Anyway, solo assembly does allow one an intimate familiarity with the unit. Not only was every piece there that was supposed to be there, everything actually fit just like it should. During the whole assembly process (and close examination of each individual part), I could find NO instance where quality appeared to be compromised in any way.

I mean - the manufacturer warranties every single piece of the thing for as long as you live, so do the math. And buy it while you're young.

So of all the gym's Bodycraft makes, why did I choose the K2? In a word - SQUATS! Everything I've ever learned about fitness tells me that squats are the best single exercise you can do. And that's one exercise that's noticeably absent in most home gyms. Sure, you can do leg curls and extensions, and some even throw in a leg press. But nothing beats squats for total fitness - and this machine allows you to do them to total exhaustion, in total safety.

And when you throw in the upper, lower, and mid level cable pulleys - plus the movable arms (an idea borrowed from Bowflex's Revolution), I'd defy anyone to tell me an exercise you can't do on this gym.

Okay, now that I've got everything thinking I'm probably a Bodycraft stockholder or something, I'm going to try to pick this thing apart. So here's some bad stuff.

First of all, this thing is EXPENSIVE! I know that you get what you pay for, blah blah blah - but $3400 is still a lot of cash to lay out for exercise stuff. That's why you should buy it while you're young so the warranty will be longer, and you'll have more years over which to amortize the cost.

Also, it comes in about a gillion boxes - none of which are even remotely light weight or easy to handle. (There's a down side to buying quality stuff - It weighs more.) It could be argued that anyone capable of muscling all these boxes into the assembly area is already in great shape, and probably doesn't need the gym anyway.

And if you haven't achieved all your fitness goals getting all the parts in your basement, don't worry. By the time you get everything unpackaged and laid out in some sort of recognizable order, you will have.

But alas, the actual assembly process isn't all that bad. The instructions are very concise and easy to follow, and having virtually every piece machined to perfection certainly helps.

One word of caution though - leave all the nuts, bolts, washers, etc. that are in labeled bags IN THOSE BAGS! The instructions will reference those parts based on those labels. If you take them out, you'll have to measure each individual bolt to figure out whether or not it's the one you're looking for.

Oh... and don't forget to drink lots of fluids.

Once assembly is complete though, and you get a little feel for the K2, you'll realize that the lifetime warranty Bodycraft gives you probably isn't ever going to come into play. This is one well built gym!

On a somewhat funny side-note, I had ordered Bowflex's DVD a few weeks prior, and they called me about the time I'd finished putting the K2 together to see if I was ready to order a new Bowflex. After explaining that I'd bought a Bodycraft over the Bowflex - because I'd never seen a Bowflex in a commercial gym, etc., the lady thanked my politely and told me whenever I get ready to UPGRADE to a Bowflex, to give them a call.

Folks, trust me on this one - If you own this gym, the word "upgrade" isn't even applicable. And if you've endured the assembly process, you ain't gonna be changing nothing for quite awhile!

But after living with the K2 for about a month now, I have 3 gripes:

1. When you're trying to "guesstimate" the weight you're lifting on the bench press, I don't think they made allowances for the actual weight of the bar assembly you're lifting. For example, 100 lbs. of free weights is considerably lighter than 100 lbs. on the K2.

2. I love the isolation of doing "dumbbell presses" on the cable arms, and find the little balls on the ends of the cables that rest against the pulley don't float like they do on cheaper machines. These things seem to want to rake across my arms just north of the elbows causing annoying little bruises.

3. There's a little feeder pulley on the end of each movable arm that doesn't seem to be of the same quality of the other pulleys. Hence, when the cable contacts this pulley, it makes a slight noise it doesn't otherwise make. I know that no one other than someone like me would probably even notice this, but it bothers me since it seems to be about the only flaw on an otherwise really well thought out machine.

In summary, if you're looking for a commercial quality gym for the home, you've got about 10' X 12' of good solid floor space, and $3,400 to invest in your future health, I can't imagine investing it more wisely.

And if you happen to live in the Cincinnati, OH area, check out Exercise & Leisure Co. They're a great bunch of guys, match whatever price you'll find online, and they'll deliver it AND even put it together for you if you don't live too far away.

Total Trainer Home Gym 4000-XL Review

Total Trainer Home Gym 4000-XL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is pretty much a first impressions review.

It arrived earlier than the shipping estimate, and was packaged in a double box.The machine is easy to set up, so easy that the hardest part was actually opening the two layers of boxes.

The TT4000XL is satisfyingly heavily constructed, with steel rails and a well-built padded bench that is both wider and longer than other brands at this price.I* bought the 4000XL "blind," based on online reviews and after trying some competing brands. So far, it has lived up to the positive reviews, and has all the advantages it was touted as having.

Specifically, it is a bit larger than other brands at this price point. The more well-known Total Gym series, in particular, is a little small for me and feels cramped - io am 6 feet tall and 180 lbs, the outside limit for the Total Gym until you move up to the $1000 models. The Total trainer, however, doesn;'t feel cramped at all to me, and I really appreciate the heavier, longer, and wider glide bench.

Like most body-weight resistance home gyms, it folds up for easy storage. The wheels/casters are smooth and easy to roll, making it easy for my wife to move the gym around, and either set it up or fold it away for storage.Since it weighs around 90 lbs, I was a little concerned she would not be able to maneuver it, but she has had no problems.

Again, we've only had it but a few days, but so far it seems solid, well-built, and sturdy.Based on this machine, I would recommend Bayou Fitness products to any moderate-to-casual home user. This is a high-quality piece of equipment, and offers features - like the bar for adding additional weight - that are available from other brands only on their much more expensive models. It is a much better machine than the base models other companies offer at this price point.
