The titanium version was purchased for me by my father as a 30th birthday gift.He requested that I wear it daily and to allay my concerns stated that if it broke he would have it fixed. I did and 6 weeks later it was back to Tissot for repairs. The water resistance had failed and the battery required replacing. It now resides permanently in its box, a reminder of my father's kindness and Tissot's extremely poor quality and judgment.

Why Tissot names this the Trek watch is beyond me.It does not hold up to showering, fishing trips, or hand washing.Honest trekking, camping, and hiking would absolutely destroy this timepiece. Don't even begin to consider this watch for use if you really need to depend on it.It will let you down.

The touch features are intriguing though most of them do not provide information with any degree of accuracy that would warrant their being included. The altimeter, metio, and thermometer functions are ultimately useless.A simple reading of the manual's description of the accuracy and processes involved for each of those three functions reveals this and use and observation confirms they are extremely inaccurate and unreliable. The chrono feature works well though once daily use for 20-30 min a day for 20 days completely drained the battery despite what the manual says regarding battery longevity.

In all I feel awful that my father, who intended to purchase me a durable heirloom timepiece that would be thoroughly useful in my outdoor endeavors, ended up wasting his money.I have had thirty dollar Timex watches that were more durable, reliable, functional, and worthwhile than this watch.I cannot and will not purchase or recommend for purchase a Tissot.

I ordered this from Amazon in November 2004 as a Christmas Present. Initially it was very impressive BUT

1. The 'temperature' gauge does not work if the watch is on your wrist

2. The altimeter has to be re-set every time you want a realistic reading

It is a comfortable watch, and the T Touch mechanism is impressive in a geeky kind of way.

My first major problem arrived when daylight saving time kicked in, the time mechanism refused to reset, and the T Touch defaulted to altimeter. So I now had a watch that was one hour incorrect, but did tell me how far above sea level I was. Two weeks later the dials on the watch started rotating randomly like a windmill, before finally dieing completely.

I tried to contact Tissot direct, but could never get anyone to answer the phone. I therefore took the watch to a Tissot retailer, who advised the watch would take 4-6 weeks to repair.

Six weeks later I returned to the retailer, only to find that Tissot had lost the guarentee, the original invoice, and were refusing to repair the watch until copy documentation was sent to them. They then proceeded to lose the copy documentation again, and it took FIVE MONTHS for the watch to be returned to me.

Last Sunday daylight saving time kicked in again.......and guess what happened. Now I am back to square one, with a watch that is one hour ahead of the actual time, and is currently advising me I am 26 meters above sea level.

Avoid like the plague compadres.

This is sturdy built, but the compass really does not function properly and the backlight is so poor it's impossible to see in the dark.I won't say anything bad about it's durability.I tend to be pretty rough on a watch and break/rip off/lose/ect. but for a few months now this one has seemed to outlive others in it's price range. It's a bit bulky compared to what I expected but reasonably comfortable.

it looks nice & it had a compass & that was all that I was looking for, yet I suppose I over-looked the obvious.....I WANTED IT TO WORK!!! I purchased this watch and was relatively pleased for about two months before it started to poop out on me, after replacing the battery at my own cost, I finally contacted customer service. After a long ordeal, I was able to get someone to send a replacement thanks to watch. When I received it, it was shortened by a few links. So after getting it up and running again....it once again crapped out on me. Then when I contact customer service, they tell me that the COMPANY HAS FOLDED AND THEY NO LONGER HONOR THE WARRANTY....(read, I'm SOL)
its nice to be appreciated, DON'T BUY THIS DAMN THING

National Geographic Men's NG702GKSY Hike Master Altimeter Lap Counter Watch Review

National Geographic Men's NG702GKSY Hike Master Altimeter Lap Counter Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm reviewing the National Geographic Ski Master Watch, NG702GKSY.This is not the hiking watch, it is the Ski model with the yellow band. The NG702GKSK is the same watch with a black band.

Ergonomically, yes, this is a big watch, and it has a stainless steel case, so it is heavy. The weight is definitely noticeable at first, but I rapidly became accustomed to it.Because the wrist band flows smoothly into the shape of the case, this helps to reduce the visual sense of the size.On the down side, the watch won't take aftermarket bands.

The watch packs a lot of functionality. In addition to the usual watch functions, two time zones, timer, chronometer, alarm, the watch has pressure (barometer/altimeter), compass, and temperature sensors.

In this model, the altimeter function feeds into a "ski log" database. In ski mode, the watch senses the beginning and end of a descent, and keeps records for each as a "lap".

If you manually enter the slope of the run, the watch calculates maximum and average descent speeds for each lap.Unfortunately, where I ski, this slope information is not readily available.

The watch provides the following data for each lap:
Start time, descent time, max speed, average speed, highest altitude, lowest altitude, altitude change, and a graph of descent altitude vs time.

It also can provide a summary of your laps:
Date, start time, total travel period, number of laps, total descent time, accumulated descent altitude change, accumulated ascent, max speed, highest altitude, lowest altitude, slope.

While these are interesting bits of data to the most avid skier, there are other models of National Geographic watches that have the same basic styling, but are designed for hikers, such as the NG701GKSU (black) and NG701GKSR (dark gray), that may be more appropriate for the "average" watch buyer. As an added bonus, those watches have bands that match the case color.

Comparison to the Casio Pathfinder
Relative to the Casio Pathfinder watch, which also has triple sensors, the National Geographic watches seem more sturdily built, and, to my eye, they offer a more pleasing look thanks to the band that flows into the lines of the case. The display uses light letteringon a dark background. This is not as visible as the more typical dark lettering on a light background found on the Casio. The backlight of the Ski Master is anemic. It allows the watch to be used in near or total darkness, but offers very little help in normal lighting conditions.

Summary:
4 out of 5 stars.Great functionality, good style (if you like a yellow wrist band, otherwise go for the GKSK version), and well built. But the somewhat difficult to read display and almost worthless backlight prevent me from giving it 5 stars.
